swiss swirl ice cream cake

A first timer here,. . . first blog post and first daring bakers challenge, so here goes:

The July 2010 Daring Bakers’ challenge was hosted by Sunita of Sunita’s world – life and food. Sunita challenged everyone to make an ice-cream filled Swiss roll that’s then used to make a bombe with hot fudge. Her recipe is based on an ice cream cake recipe from Taste of Home.

epic fail. this version shows the cake after i scrapped off the layer of ice cream that seeped below the rolls!

the swiss rolls were delicious.  I tweaked the recipe and added instant espresso to the cream filling - yum.

i thought i lined the pan right

obviously my ice cream, which was also delicious, but had sort of a processed aftertaste (weird as all natural ingredients,...) was a little too soft and saturated the pan in between and under the rolls.  :(

Overall it was fun.  my hot fudge was a mess and didn't taste good, more like a pudding than chocolate sauce.  the ice cream didn't taste as good as the store version.  the cake itself was also a disaster.  from assembly to taste.  too much cake, and my ice cream got icy.

there's always next month.  but i'll be sticking to carvel the next time i need an ice cream cake.
